Adobe's huge move in AI video generation world

Adobe's buying up tons of video footage to train its AI model.

With rivals like OpenAI's Sora pushing boundaries, Adobe is scrambling to build its own text-to-video AI model.

Video tools are Adobe’s bread and butter and it’s serious about adding AI into these tools. They've shown their hands at AI image generation with Firefly, but video is the next frontier.

Adobe's past strategy relied on stock libraries, but they're going beyond that to build something competitive. It’s paying creators to submit short videos of common activities. Think videos of people doing everyday stuff, interacting with objects like smartphones, etc. The pay is about $3 per minute but can go as high as $7 in some cases.

Stability AI launches Stable Audio 2.0

Stability AI, the company behind open-source AI image models, is back with another model. We are jamming on music this time. The new audio model called Stable Audio 2.0 creates full music tracks with high-quality.

The new model takes things to the next level with tracks that go up to 3 minutes long from a single prompt. Want more? It’s not just text-to-audio, Stable Audio 2.0 supports audio-to-audio conversion.

To drive that feature home, think of humming a beat in your voice and asking to model to generate that beat with a guitar. This new model has got you. It also emphasized sound effects better and can work with transferring styles.

Stability AI also says that the model was trained on a fully licensed dataset while keeping opt-out requests in mind. On that ground, they are allowing commercial use of this model too. But like their previous models, this isn’t open-source, so you can try it at stableaudio.com and opt for a commercial license if that’s your jam.

Secret AI device by Sam Altman could raise upto $1B

The rumours of Sam Altman and Jony Ive working on an AI device have been picking up steam. Feels like the idea has gone from the dream stage to the funding stage. The Information reports that the new “mysterious” company is looking to raise up to $1B from Thrive and Emerson.

AI wearables are hot in 2024, so much so that folks gotta keep a count of “days since AI wearable launch.”

But just like AI “wrapper” startups, Sam Altman might be coming for AI devices too. He’s been secretly planning an AI device since last year with the former Apple designer Jony Ive.

Though nothing has been confirmed about this AI device, but The Information reports that Sam and Jony have set up a company for the device and are talking with leading VC firms to raise money. The amount? Upto $1B.

The VC firms in talks are Emerson Collective and Thrive Capital. Emerson’s founder Laurene Powell Jobs is buddies with Jony and Sam where Thrive led OpenAI’s latest share purchase valuing it at $86B.

AirPods are the best example of tech that no one imagined would be an everyday wearable 10 years ago. Same with AI adoption, the scale we have now was not intuitive. So Jony and Sam, two folks who did imagine these coming together can really lead to a fundamental shift in the tech we carry every day.

If this happens, it’s no secret that OpenAI’s models will power the thing. OpenAI could also own a part of this company. This device is likely to be different from a smartphone.
